for all of our local experiences.
Because we know that when women have gainful employment they reinvest 90% of it back into their families, as opposed to 35% for men

When women are lifted up, they lift their children and communities with them

We also just really like them and want them to do well ;)

Jocelyn Toffic, has traveled the world true solo for over 25 years, in her younger years with her young daughter in tow. You can read the blog post about beginnings here
She is a classically trained oil painter, and took her daughter with her to artist residencies in Iceland, a place she has always felt at home. You can see her work here
Over the last 25 years there have been countless journeys to countless countries, all so intricately different and beautiful and complex and often dark when we look through an historical and honest lens, but never less perfect
For the people are what makes a place. The workers and the artists, the dreamers and the dancers, the farmers and the makers are the beating hearts past and present that guide us through this world and make it beautiful

ATOOFAH

Atoofah is our Local Lead Guide in Türkiye

She is a travel enthusiast who has been to 30+ countries and counting!
She is a history geek (her words!) and a foodie at the same time, so you will always get to try amazing cuisines on her tours. She is now a resident of Istanbul but has traveled across Turkey extensively so she knows allll the hidden gems and local favorites. Atoofah is absolutely brilliant and such a kind and gracious host who has a gift for putting people at ease.

NISRINE

Nisrine is our Local Lead Guide in Morocco

She is a Fes local, born and raised, and is a firecracker of a Moroccan Woman. Feminist and fierce and entrepreneurial, in a country that still very much expects women to get married young and have babies. She is a trailblazer and a consummately professional modern Moroccan woman. You are truly in good hands when you are with Nisrine. She will show you all the secret spots and is very open about her experience in a nation just beginning to modernize its beliefs on equality.

She is also an expert on her country’s history and culture, and an invaluable part of the AWT team.

NICHOLE

Nichole is our Head Tour Leader
She is a Seattle-based stay-at-home mom, who joined our team after going on 2 tours with us (Türkiye and Iceland). Did you know we hire leaders from past guests? We sure do.

In her past life, Nichole was a tour manager for a famous touring musician, so she is well-equipped to deal with any and all travel-related hiccups.
She is wickedly funny and an absolute joy to be around. Nichole likes some quiet time, like all the introvert girlies, but has enough adult-onset adhd to keep her excited when she is on the go. Nichole is truly your best adventure buddy waiting to happen.
She laughs easily and cares deeply.
We would, quite literally, be lost in this world without her.

EILEEN

Eileen is a multi-disciplinary artist who has traveled all over the world doing artist residencies. You can see her work here EileenRyan.com
She also has a lifetime of experience working in the hospitality industry, making her the perfect leader.
A true introvert with the heart of an explorer. She’s as fascinated with the outer world as she is with the inner worlds.

Her thoughts sometimes follow peculiar pathways, as is common with artists, but it is always an enchanted path, and you will think things and see things you most certainly would not have without her unique inner compass guiding us.

STEPH

Steph is another leader we scooped up after she was a guest on our tour to Vienna and Prague.
I love this picture because this is pure Steph. Extremely happy to have a snack any time anywhere. She’s a former barista and is our best cafe culture expert. She’ll find you the best cup of coffee in every major city on Earth, but will also gleefully drink the worst gas station sludge on the planet. She’s an expert. Not a snob.

Steph is also an incredibly self-confident woman. She is not only confident in herself though, she is fully confident in all the women around her. And she will tell them so. Often and enthusiastically. Her confidence is infectious, and we love to see it.
